State of Black Business

Sheraton Raleigh | Oak Forest Ballroom | 421 South Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC

Please join us for an evidence-based and politically neutral discussion of the black business landscape. Challenges faced by these businesses are in some ways similar and in some ways different than those faced by other communities (including firms owned by women, veterans, and those in rural places). Panelists will explore historical data, current projections, and talk about why increasing black business ownership is beneficial for North Carolina’s economy. We hope you’ll join the dialogue over what types of new policies may help promote business ownership for the African American community.

Moderator: Katie Gailes, Director of Entrepreneurship Initiatives at Wake Tech Community College

Panelists: Andrea Harris, Senior Fellow at Self Help Credit Union; Olalah Njenga, CEO & Chief Strategist at YellowWood Group; Jamie McCall, VP of Policy & Research at Carolina Small Business Development Fund; and Talib Graves-Manns, owner of Knox Street Studios.
